Darling Esme,
The noise is enough to drive away anyone's sanity. The bullets and ammunition fly past with a whirring sound. We're in a trench on the beach. Already we have more casualties than we can possibly address and more are being brought to us in a steady stream. I'm strong, I've seen a lot in my existence but nothing can prepare you for this, no matter what you've been through. My sanity remains, only due to the thoughts of you and Edward back home. Surely less than this is more than enough to bring a man to the point of breaking.

They keep bringing us more casualties as our supplies dwindle down to naught. Darkness has fallen and the casualties keep coming. The noise, I can't take much more.

22:22
I don't have much time to write. I needed to be alone, to collect my thoughts, reflect on thoughts of you, home, the trees, solitude. Alone doesn't exist here. There are bodies everywhere, I can't save them all, none of us can. I fear my solitude is forever lost. It's so loud, there's so much blood. So much blood.

22:56
Usually the sound of the ocean is soothing, calming and relaxing. I don't think I will ever see it or hear it again as I once did.
I'll fold this up now and address it as I don't know when I will have a chance to have it sent off.
Know that I love you, always
