Wednesday 7th, December 1941
I remember it well. The news hit us fast and we were all in a state of disbelief. Was this a joke? A mistake? Surely we weren’t so vulnerable that they could just sneak in, destroy the entire fleet and get out before we knew what hit us.
It was no joke. The Japanese had launched a full out attack on our ships in Pearl Harbor. Sadly they made the biggest mistake of their country’s existence. More than 2,400 Americans were killed that morning and more than 1,100 were wounded. This act led us to officially enter the war on 8th December, 1941.
December 7th is now a day to reflect the tragedy that befell our great country. Though we were wounded severely, it was not a mortal wound. We stand together on this day to remember those who fought and who still stand strong to defend our freedom.
God Bless the USA.
