Johnstown Flood- Interview

the Johnstown flood was a a major flood that happen in PA. it killed 2,800 people in under 10 minutes. This is the writing project I did after it.

Pits. Time(Pittsburg Times)- Mr. Smith, how much did you loss in the Flood?

                      -Mr.Smith fiddles with his hands looking down at them-

Mr.Smith- Everything. My home, my belongings, my -voice breaks- children, my

                        -chokes on his words-

Pits. Time- Please take your time.

                       -Mr.Smith takes a breath-

Mr.Smith- my wife.

                      -the reporter writes down some notes-

Pits. Time- Could you tell me about the day, starting when it rained?

                      -Mr. Smith nods-

Mr.Smith- I was on my way home from work, I was in a hurry because the streets were starting to flood, like they always did.

                       -reporter jots down the notes.-

Mr.Smith- I was about a block away from my house when I heard the loud creaking sound.

Pits Time- The dam breaking? 

                          -Mr.Smith nods-

Mr.Smith- yes. I picked up my pace and ran till I could see my house. I could see my boy, Christopher, playing outside.

                      -Mr.Smith eye's turn glass-

I could hear the roar of the water, I turned around to see a wall of water comeing closer. I yelled for Christoper to go inside. I tryed to out run the wall of water. But I couldn't, I don't even know if Christopher made it inside. I last thing I heard was my daughter, Lilly's cries.

Pits Time- Can you tell me how you survied?

                       -Mr. Smith smiles and his face goes pale-

Mr.Smith- When you asked my what I lost and I told you everything. I ment everything, icluding my life.
