20 August 2010 - Letters from Marcus To Didyme - Found in Italy

Our expedition started last week, when we traveled to Italy, Volterra - my interrest peaked by the Ruins of the Old Volterra Theatre - the Ruins in Volterra. A magical place, with plenty of history of times gone by. When you stand amongs the ruins you can almost hear the ghosts of the past. The woman singing her anthem, the cheer of the people enjoying a concert. Its like it comes to life when your heart is in it.

 

Martin and I together with our team of student Archeologists have been studying these ruins in search of some ancient artifacts. Something I do for a living. A historian at the University of Utah/ History Professor and Field worker.

 

Everythign was pretty average until Martin came across a sealed clay pot burried in the soil behind the what use to be the stage of the Theatre.

*scans down the list of artifacts that I have collected since my arival in Italy, excited about my new findings*

 

*oversees the Martin where he's digging up the site near the Ruins in Volterra http://bit.ly/dcU7Qq hoping to find a few pieces of history*

 

*brushes off a few artifacts as I carefully look at the engravings on the stone tablet - carefully working off the dust collected over ages*

 

*the sudden call from Martin - drawing my attention as he gestures for met to join him - placing the stone piece carefully on the table*

 

*I make my way down to join him where he is hunched over his findings - smiling excitedly at me* Ooh! What is that? *I ask as I bend down*

 

*carefully inspects the embedded object which seems like some sort of ancient clay container, sealed and withered by time*

 

*removing the clay pot from the soil http://flic.kr/p/6KEhty I carefully move it to the table, where I start to inspect it*

 

 

*as I open the clay pot, I'm slightly surprised and excited about my findings, as I look at the pile of letters, carefully preserved*

 

*lifting the content out from the clay pot, I quickly move it out of the sun to avoid any damage to the the letters http://bit.ly/dkWi64 *

 

*I slowly untie the leather string holding the letters all together, excited to know who these belonged to, opening the first letter*

 

Italian *thankful that I am fluent in foreign languages like Italian especially ancient dialect I start to spread open all the letters*

 

*using my magifying glass to make out the name the letters are addressed to - Didyme I scan down further to see who the letters are from*

 

*The name Marcus (@Marcus_Volturi1 ) signed at the bottom of each letter - not cared for the content as yet as I look for more *my complete interest in the treasure before me, I catch glimpes of the words "sangue meaning Blood" "amore meaning love" * references*

 

*other names catching my Peripheral vision such as Athena @AthenodoraItaly, @ArosSulpicia, @MasterAro1000BC & @CaiusMasterBad *

 

*my assumption of the little I see in the letters are most likely discussions of Family or friends who use to reside in Itally Volterra*

 

A specific mention to "MORTE ETERNA" meaning "ETERNAL DEATH" spikes my interest as I recollect my studies of the undead"

 

*I pick up the first letter - very feint but readable http://bit.ly/94Opyw - I go to sit at my desk as I start to read*

 

*I study the letter carefully reading each word with care - http://yfrog.com/caqplj the words bringin tears to my eyes* They were in love..

 

*As I read I can sence the inense emotion @Marcus_Volturi1 expressed, the love he felt for his true love Didyme. So pure so intense*

 

*Martin's voice rings as he calls me to come eat some lunch, hestating for a second, I get up lay the letter back on the table and head out*

 

*as I sit down to eat my lunch, my mind wanders to the letter, wanting badly to find out who Marcus and Didyme was*

 

*making up my mind to try and read through all letters to see if I can trace any information of where the two lovers use to live*
