I do not remember the details of my transformation that well. I may have been unconscious, because I woke up as a vampire, seeing the bodies of my regime around me.
I know that my regime and I were marching through the woods, on our way to our camp. We were ambushed by a vampire. I do not know his name, but I vaguely remember what he looked like.
He had dark hair and red eyes. He looked to be around 17, so definitely a young, less experienced vampire. Perhaps he was a young soldier who met his vampire fate during the war. Who knows. Back then, men as young as 15 were recruited to serve in the war.
With his speed, agility and durability, we stood no chance. All I remember is opening my eyes, realizing that I had changed. My senses were clearer and my throat burned. The young vampire that turned me was nowhere in sight. As I ran through the woods to find some way to satiate my burning throat, I realized had the same speed that vampire had. I realized that I had become what he was.
When you become a vampire, each person's blood smells different. To a new vampire, any human blood is instantly enticing. It is instinct to ease the burning throat by drinking blood. My first victims were two soldiers, swimming in the nearby lake.
Once I drank them dry, I felt a sense of relief. I knew I had to figure out what to do from there. I stayed hidden, seeking my refuge in an abandoned farm house in a clearing.
That's what I can remember. I wonder if my maker is still alive. I would like him to pay for killing my comrades, more than anything. I used to seek vengeance for him turning me into a vampire, but I have come to terms with that. Yes, in a way he killed me. I was unable to be close to my family again. I was able to watch them from afar though. My comrades had families too. The youngest soldier in our regime was a 16 year old young man. He had his whole life ahead of him. I will never forgive that vampire for killing them. Never.
