How is she 6 Years Old?

Aerie is 6.

Those words are both terrifying and miraculous at the same time.

Aerie is SIX years old. SIX. She is a true testament of love, devotion and absolute chaos. She goes from zero to 60 in a flash. She is fast, furious, funny and feral. She loves mud,  princesses, pirates, sticks, bugs, dresses, dirt, hair bows, shorts, flowers, motorcycles (damn it, Jake!) and rain.

She is everything you can imagine all balled up into a tiny frame with an angelic face. She is all…

Autumn Festival

October here is a busy month. We are all excited about the change of seasons and the great harvest festival.

It's a time of gratitude, friendship and togetherness. The tribe comes together to create an atmosphere of love and family and each one of us brings something unique to the gathering.

Old Quil will make the table that we will place on First Beach. On the table be our feast. Dried fish, fish fry and cakes, sweets, vegetables from our gardens, fruits and all sorts of…

When it rains, it pours

Today is another dry day, the weekend was real nice and we got quite a lot done on the roof.

Last week a branch fell on the roof over Aerie's room. Nothing like going into a toddler's room at 3 am to find her jumping on her bed singing, "It's raining it's pouring!" and have that be the actual case.

It really WAS raining in her room. Needless to say, we were up at 3am for the day.  I called Jake and he came over and tossed a tarp up on the roof till daylight. He climbed up…

Terrible 2s

I thought I wouldn't survive the teething phase. I got through that pretty well. The crying made me feel sad for Aerie rather than angry for my loss of sleep. They can't help how they deal with pain. Jake never cried while he was teething and if Rachel and Rebecca did, I certainly don't remember it. Perhaps in time the teething memories will fade with this one too, who knows. Anyway.

If there's one thing that IS consistent with all 4 of my kids, it's the Terrible 2s. I probably have the…

Winter Days

Been here in La Push my whole life but seems as I get older, Im getting less and less tolerant of being cold. Used to be we went swimming in 30 degree temperatures. 80 degrees still isnt warm enough to get this old man into the drink. I was just out back grabbing some wood and heard a bunch of kids talking as they were walking by. They are heading to the cliffs to go diving.  It's cold, they aren't part of the pack either. They're just crazy!

It's a nice quiet day here, just me and…

A Blank Sheet of Paper

Beginning to Wonder

So I've found a few more of Tiffany's poems. I am repetitively drawn to that damn box in the workshop. I KNOW I shouldn't but I can't stop myself. Her words are alive with…

8.5 Months Old

I went into Aerie's room this morning to find her standing in her crib with a sunshiny grin on her face that completely melted my heart. How can it be she's 8.5 months old…

Times, they are a Changin'
