Esme Anne Cullen

I was born Esme Anne Platt on September 2, 1895. I was the only child of a businessman and farmer and his wife. I had a very happy childhood growing up in Columbus, Ohio. My childhood came to an end when I was 16 and broke my leg. The local Doctor was out of town and the one who treated me was Dr. Cullen. Little did I know it then, but he was going to be my future.

I went on to marry to please my parents, but found the man I was married to a brute. I had a brief respite from his abuse when he went off to war, but upon his return found his demeanor had become worse. When I found out I was with child, I ran away, first to Milwaukee, then Ashland, WI. There, I had my son, who died 2 days later. I tried to go on, but the pain in my heart and the lonely, empty ache in my soul were too much to bear, and I threw myself off of a cliff to Lake Superior.

I did not die as I should have…as I had hoped for. I was taken to hospital and there, knowing that I was almost gone, my Dr. Cullen from ten years prior appeared and saved me.

It took me a while to adapt to the new lifestyle. I wasn’t upset with Carlisle’s choice to save me. He had been living in my heart for years. Now, I had his. But it was not easy. I faltered and failed a few times, but finally was able to overcome the thirst for human blood, with the help of Carlisle and Edward.

Our family grew and I became the mother figure all of these lost children seemed to need. I could offer them comfort and help them as they each came to terms with their new life. No one meant more. I had lost a human son, but gained an eternal family.

These days, I am not only Mother, I am Grandmother, becoming the true Matriarch of the Cullen family. Our friends and family are a constant source of joy to my heart. Every day is a new song, a new start, and new adventure, with my hand firmly in Carlisle’s. Never will we part, always will we be joined.

Thoughts on Renesmee

There is nothing as wonderful as spending time with loved ones. Friday, my dear Renesmee came to spend the afternoon with me, and we spent hours in my greenhouse looking at flowers, trying to help her decide which ones she liked for her wedding.  She wants wildflowers, since she and Jacob will be married in the meadow. They have yet to pick a date, so we are not sure if anything will be in bloom at the right time, but Grandma Esme will make sure she has exactly what she wants for her most…

A Gift of Giving

To me, life has always been about finding ways to give back. If there is anything that I can do, with this special life I have to help out others, I am there to do it. Donating my time, money or whatever is asked is a great joy to me. To have Carlisle in agreement with me on this point makes it even more of a blessing. We often look for ways and places that need a helping hand. In our time we have donated books and supplies to many schools around the globe, helped to set up water…

373 Years Young-Carlisle's Birthday

My Dearest Love,

Another year has passed and it is time to celebrate your birthday again. This year, I have arranged for a quiet day for us, spent in this lovely cabin on a lake, well hidden from the rest of the world. There is no power here, no cell reception, nothing to distract me from showing you how very much I love you. We will spend your day getting to know one another again, talking, laughing, swimming, sharing and loving.

I hope this day is as memorable for you…

Football...Yes! Football with Emmett

Super Bowl Sunday is a big day to me. I love football! I know, it seems out of character, that I would enjoy the game. I have to thank my son Emmett for introducing me to it, teaching me what it was all about, the combat between the teams. When they started to televise them, you would find me and Emmett in front of the TV glued to every game we could watch.

We got to attend our share of games as well, as long as they were at night or in bad weather. Our Super Bowl Sundays…
