Description: Caravaggio moved to Rome in the 1590s and created realistic painting of half-length figures. This painting is of his first patron, Cardinal Francesco del Monte. The Cardinal discovered Caravaggio as a young artist and allowed for him to stay within his home. This piece is an allegory of music. Cupid is at the left of the painting. The costumes the men are wearing are classical looking and Caravaggio painted his self-portrait into the painting. He is the second from the right.
